Aerospace Parts Finishing Options

Aerospace Parts Finishing Options

Once an aerospace part or component is produced, the next step is finishing. There are numerous types of finishing options to consider. The option specified depends on the nature and performance of the part and temperature it will be performing in, among other factors. Our next series of articles will examine some of the most common types of aerospace parts finishing options used when producing prototypes to production manufacturing and contract manufacturing projects.

Polishing

Polishing is used to produce a glossy and smooth surface. This can be accomplished by either physical polishing of the surface or by chemically inducing the smooth and shine. The most common materials that responds well to polishing are brass, stainless steel, and aluminum.

Powder Coating

Powder coating is a process of applying a free-flowing dry powder then curing it using either ultraviolet light or heat. The outcome can appear either glossy or semi-glossy depending on project specifications. It can be produced in any Pantone color and is commonly applied to aluminum and steel.

Our next article will highlight more types of aerospace parts finishing options.
