What is the Difference Between AS 9100 and ISO 9001 Certification?

The aerospace and defense industries are examples of areas which are regulated and require a high degree of quality control. A machine shop wishing to deliver contract manufacturing and/or prototypes to production manufacturing projects for these industries must earn various types of certifications.

JW Machine is an ISO 9001 and AS 9100 certified machine shop serving all types of industries including aerospace and defense. ISO 9001 is a general quality management standard that can be applied to any industry. It covers areas such as customer satisfaction, employee training, and continual improvement.

AS 9100 certification is specific to the aerospace industry and includes additional requirements for quality control beyond those of ISO 9001. Some of these additional requirements include risk management, supply chain management, and product safety. AS 9100 also has clauses relating to supply chain management and customer satisfaction (including complaints handling).

Our next articles will take a deeper dive into both ISO 9001 and AS 9100 certifications.
