Fun Tidbits About Precision CNC Machining

Many of our articles deal with the “technical” aspects of machine shop operations such as contract manufacturing, prototypes to production manufacturing, close tolerance machining, small part machining, laser cutting, laser engraving and milling turning.  While this is all valuable information, we thought it would be fun to lighten the mood and share some interesting tidbits about precision CNC machining

CNC Machining and Ice Cubes?

One of the oldest brewing and distilling companies in Japan has been creating CNC milled ice cubes.  Affectionately named, “3D on the Rocks”, the company begins with a single block of ice and utilizes precision CNC machining technology to carve a three dimensional ice sculpture.  Now that is really cool – both literally and figuratively!

Precision CNC Machining and Plywood

We often discuss the different types of metals used in precision CNC machining processes.  Did you know that plywood can also be machined using a laser cutting process?  Plywood is flexible and sturdy, making it perfect for creating various patterns and designs.
