Machine Shop Equipment

Experts in the precision CNC machining field use terminology such as contract manufacturing and prototypes to production manufacturing when referring to machine shop work.  You will also often hear terms such as milling turning, close tolerance machining, small part machining, laser cutting, and laser engraving.  If you’ve never visited a machine shop in person, this jargon may be somewhat confusing. Our next series of articles will discuss some of the equipment you will see in our machine shop.  Let’s get started:

Precision CNC Machining Centers

Precision CNC machining centers are milling machines controlled by a computer.  They are capable of performing complex tasks and yield an impressively high production rate. JW Machine has four (4) precision CNC machining centers:

  • Two (2) MAZAK NEXUS 410B Vertical Machining Centers
  • One (1) MAZAK VTC-200B Machining Center
  • One (1) NIIGATA VN 400 Machining Center.

CNC Mill Turn Centers / Lathes

A CNC mill turn center is a computer operated machine that combines both milling operations (rotating tool) and turning operations (rotating material) into one highly efficient machine. JW Machine has four (4) CNC mill turn centers:

  • MAZAK Super Quick Turn 18
  • MAZAK Super Quick Turn 15
  • MAZAK Super Quick Turn 10
  • CNC Lathe – MAZAK Quick Turn 8

Our next article will discuss support equipment, design and engineering tools, and the laser cutting/laser engraving machine we use to deliver various precision CNC machining projects.
