Materials Used in the Production of Aerospace Parts

We are continuing our series of articles discussing some of the most common materials used in the precision CNC machining of aerospace parts. Our previous article covered titanium and carbon fiber. Today, we will look at two more materials that may be used in your prototypes to production manufacturing and/or contract manufacturing projects.

Silicon Rubber

Silicon rubber is used in precision CNC machining of aerospace parts when flexibility, and thermal stability are key. Silicon rubber is resistant to fuel and oil and is known for its reliable performance in extreme environments.

Aluminum

Aluminum is a very machinable metal that is lightweight and corrosion resistant. It is commonly used in the precision CNC machining of aerospace components, namely structural aspects such as wing and fuselage skins and wing stringers.

Once an aerospace part or component has been produced, the next step is finishing. Our next series of articles will cover some of the different types of finishing options used in the precision CNC machining of aerospace parts and components.
