Precision CNC Machining Metal Material Selection

Selecting the right raw material can make all the difference in the final outcome of your precision CNC machining project. Our next series of articles will focus on some aspects to consider when choosing the type of metal to use in your contract manufacturing and/or prototypes to production manufacturing job. Let’s get started.

Weight

The weight of the metal you choose can significantly affect the bottom line cost of your precision CNC machining project.  Using heavier metals such as iron could drive the cost of your project higher. If your project specs call for a heavier metal, then you will need to utilize one, however, if cost is a factor and material selection is flexible, then consider using a metal that weighs less.

Strength

If your contract manufacturing or prototypes to production manufacturing job calls for a strong, hard, and/or wear resistance metal, then you will need to select a raw material that meets these specifications.
