The CNC Machinist

Part Two

As we previously discussed, the CNC machinist plays an important role in any machine shop operation.  This is especially true for precision CNC machining operations such as JW Machine.  We are not only an AS 9100 certified machine shop, but we are also ISO 9001:2015 certified, JCP certified, SAM (CCR) registered, ITAR registered/compliant, MBE certified and MIL-SPEC Quality Compliance certified.  A machine shop cannot earn these types of esteemed certifications without employing a team of experienced, qualified precision CNC machinists.

Our previous article covered different types of projects and processes the machinist handles, including prototypes to production manufacturing, contract manufacturing, small part machining, close tolerance machining, laser cutting, laser etching, laser engraving, and milling turning. Today, we will look at some of the types of precision CNC projects a machinist may handle.

Jet Engines

Jet engines are manufactured by a machinist using precision CNC machining processes.  Some of these processes may include milling turning, laser cutting, laser etching and laser engraving depending on the type of engine and scope of the project.

OEM Parts

OEM parts for automobiles, water craft, motorcycles, airplanes, etc. are produced by machinists using precision CNC machining processes.

Computer Hardware

Precision CNC machining is used for everything from massive server parts to the tiniest computer components.  Laser engraving and/or laser etching is also used for part and serial numbers.

Our next article will look at three more types of projects handled by CNC machinists.
